Dexter Freebish Leaving Town Album: A Life Of Saturdays
Genres: Pop
This won a John Lennon Songwriting Award? Why? It sounds like every other piece of crap on the radio today. |

It comes as a great surprise to hear that Dexter Freebish won the John Lennon Songwriting Award for "Leaving Town." After all, Lennon was known for bringing originality and new ideas into music, and is justly regarded as one of music's true innovators. How, then, did this unoriginal piece of tripe win an award named for him? Simply, "Leaving Town" sounds exactly like everything else you're hearing on adult album alternative these days. Everclear, Third Eye Blind, Matchbox Twenty, SR-71, Vertical Horizon, the Wallflowers -- folks, this sound wasn't original when those bands were doing it, and they've at least been around a bit longer. Don't waste your time with this unless you can't get enough of hearing the same ten songs every hour, 'cause this sounds just like 'em, and will probably be one of them soon. Lennon's probably doing 360s in his grave right now, while Dexter Freebish should be "Leaving Town" with their tails between their legs -- preferably, as quickly as possible.
