Is “You Can’t Win 'Em All” a bittersweet look back at Ike Turner’s checkered past, or just a generic song title? Given Ike’s history, when you hear lines like “You might as well get in your own little bed/And learn how to sleep by yourself alone,” a whiff of autobiography seems to hang in the air. The song itself is an oddly jumbled blues that features some misplaced-sounding electronic drums and a popping bassline – though Ike’s inimitable ivory-tinkling gives it a healthy dose of sass. Combined with Turner’s rough but appealing warble, it all adds up to a loveable mutt of a tune.
