Aztlan Underground’s MUSICBLITZ Exclusive, “Haves and Have Nots,” is bound to remind a lot of listeners of Rage Against the Machine. Certainly, the bands share a penchant for socially conscious lyrics and a hard rock-meets-hip hop sound. However, Aztlan Underground easily set themselves apart from RATM and their clones -- this track is fresher, more original, and more authentic than even Rage themselves. Where Rage’s hip hop elements can seem contrived and a little too “white boy wannabe” for fans of true hip-hop, Aztlan Underground set a smooth, gangsta flavored groove on the verses, broken up with some tasty scratching and highlighted by riveting Spanglish lyrical delivery that demands you pay attention. Some credit for the polished sound should be shared with the track’s producer, Wil-Dog of the L.A. hip hop/salsa/kitchen sink collective Ozomatli, a man that definitely knows his way around a hip hop groove.

The song’s choruses fall into a thrashy, metallic shout-along that belies the funky grooves of the verse, but this element is by no means off-putting or forced -- it conjures images of hundreds of kids pogoing like their lives depend on it. And though the band seems more at home with the hip-hop elements than the hard rock, they deliver the goods on both. In the final analysis, this is a track you don’t want to miss, “not,” as the choruses shout, “by a long shot!”

Azltaln Underground is the shit. Definetly one of the best bands out there today period. The fact that they've been able to stay true to thier political beliefs while consistantly putting out head banging fisy clencing music proves that.
