Will Adler (guitar), D. Randall Blythe (vocals), Chris Adler (drums) and John Campbell (bass) followed up one underground full-length release as Burn the Priest (on Legion Recordings) by adding guitarist Duane, changing their name to Lamb of God, and releasing 2000’s New American Gospel on Prosthetic/Metal Blade Records. Gospel, produced by Steve Austin of Today Is The Day fame, builds on the band’s underground status with a unique fusion of power and death metal. To quote the band, “We are screaming defiance in the face of the bullshit trend of so-called metal bands with their mom's makeup and lame riffs.
