Propagandhi
Three kids from the Canadian backwoods, vocalist/guitarist Chris, vocalist/bassist Todd, and drummer Jord formed Propaghandi out of a love of both mid-'80s political hardcore and early-'80s speed metal. With a sound and attitude marrying the two, they debuted in 1993 with the seven-inch How to Clean a Couple O' Things. Instantly establishing themselves as both fiercely political and unwilling to mindlessly adhere to typical punk scene conventions, they drew an extremely loyal core audience, as well as an equally large group of people that hated them for such "anti-scene" rants as "Stick the Fucking Flag Up Your Goddamn Ass, You Skinhead Creep" and the infamous "Ska Sucks" from 1993's debut full-length, How To Clean Everything. If nothing else. They've stuck true to their guns, proudly refusing the '90s punk "uniform" of tattoos, piercings, and dyed hair and releasing progressively harder, darker, and more political material on follow-up albums like 1996's Less Talk, More Rock and 1998's odds n' sods collection, Where Quantity is Job #1. Their third proper full-length, Today's Empires, Tomorrow's Ashes, dropped in early 2001. |
