Mountain Brothers
Named for a legendary brigade of Chinese Robin Hoods, the Mountain Brothers formed in the early '90s at Penn State University. Their sample-free sounds come courtesy of DJ/producer Chops, who shares rhyming duties with Peril-L and Styles. With a style reminiscent of classic Native Tongues tracks, the Philadelphia trio landed a contract with Ruffhouse/Columbia Records in 1996, but left after only a year due to creative differences. Since then, they've amassed a devoted following solely through self-released records and touring with such acts as Jeru the Damaja and Poor Righteous Teachers. |
