Kittie Legend has it that Kittie’s founding members, Mercedes Lander and Fallow Bowman (drums and guitar, respectively), met in high-school gym class and decided to form a band. But legend does not have it that Kittie wanted to become the next Runaways or Girlschool, as many music biz insiders see the Canadian quartet as something of a novelty: women in their late teens rocking with an abandon. Nonetheless, Kittie released their debut album, Spit, in late 1999. The band has continued to draw attention because of their age and gender relative the norms of heavy metal and hardcore. |
