The Dirty Dozen Brass Band
The New Orleans brass band sound has a rich tradition borne from second-line funeral marches and Carnival revelry. In April of 1977, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band assembled with the notion of taking those traditional sounds into new directions, from be-bop and R&B to funk and pop. In the decades since, they've evolved into one of the most respected and enduring jazz acts in history, touring rabidly and collaborating with a host of improvisational greats, including Dizzy Gillespie and Dr. John. Their 1999 release Buck Jump was produced by John Medeski of Medeski, Martin and Wood. |
