Infectious Organisms
This quintet was conceived in Richmond, VA in 1996, when rappers Gaia, Maximus and Sadyesi set out to use hip hop as a means of positive communication. The group created a local buzz and garnered mixshow airplay from coast to coast with their single, "No Sense." They later connected with live players Rudy, Dave and Will from D.C. go-go act, Good n' Plenty; started gigging in '98; toured with Outkast, the Roots, Medeski, Martin & Wood, Organized Konfusion and G-Love & Special Sauce; and independently produced and released a self-titled debut in '99. Gaia has since left to pursue solo interests, but the group has continued to tour and build its fanbase using live musicianship and bits of rock and jazz as mortar for the time-honored hip-hop building blocks: beats, rhymes, loops and samples. |
