Mack 10
Over the years, Ice Cube has had many protégés, most of whom have either tanked or just fallen by the wayside. D. Rolison, aka Mack 10, is one of the exceptions. The Inglewood gangsta rapper made his debut with his 1995 self-titled debut, which featured the runaway hit, “Foe Life.” His name already a West Coast hip hop staple, he, Cube and W.C. joined forces to become Westside Connection. After the platinum success of the supergroup’s Bow Down (1996), Mack went on to record the solo albums Based On A True Story (’97), featuring the smash, “Backyard Boogie,” The Recipe (‘98) and The Paper Route (2000). Like his mentor, Mack 10 has expanded his career far beyond the microphone, and has proven his knack for business. The young, thugged-out mogul has launched a production company, a record label, producing and starring in his own movie, Thicker Than Water, and taking a number of fledging rappers under his wing. In 2000, he married TLC’s T-Boz. |
