The Rosenbergs
If a radio single truly does what it’s supposed to do, listeners will be so taken with a band -- so utterly compelled to seek out the rest of this new band's music -- that they will overcome the emotions of parting with the $17.98 that it took nearly five hours of continuous, minimum-wage employment to earn and go out and buy the CD. That’s exactly what The Rosenbergs’ songs do. "Will U Drive Me? " is, in fact, one of those songs. It screams "I want you to hear more!" As you delve deeper into the band's lush collection, you'll find that most of their music -- including "Time Warp," "Soaked in Polyester" and "Glossary" -- succeeds in the same way.
The Rosenbergs have that very indie, very arty, luxurious sort of sound. Although highly listener-friendly, it is not likely that format radio would ever be smart enough to embrace it. College radio? Definitely. However, major radio is generally too limited in scope to find a band this good. The Rosenbergs are the kind of band you wish your local radio station were cool enough to play.
The members of this New York-based outfit are: David Fagin (vocals/guitar), Bobby Gilmartin (guitar/vocals), Travis Huff (drums/vocals) and Evan Silverman (bass, vocals). They have shared gigs with Alex Chilton, Duran Duran, Bush and the Refreshments, and even had their music featured on "Dawson’s Creek" and "Party of Five." New York’s K-ROCK named The Rosenbergs last year’s "Best Unsigned Band" and British trendsetter Jon Peel regularly features them on his BBC radio show. They have been featured in Billboard, Musician, Noise and Rockpile.
