Shelby Lynne
Alabama native Shelby Lynne emerged from a tragic situation to become a critically acclaimed country artist. When she was a teenager, her father murdered her mother, then killed himself. Lynne supported herself and her sister with singing gigs. She was barely out of her teens when she made her first record, Sunrise, in 1988. It was an auspicious debut, including a duet with George Jones called "If I Could Bottle This Up." The Academy of Country Music named her Best New Female Artist in 1991. In the ensuing years, she began writing some of her own material, and adding elements of blues and jazz to her sound. Lynne released several albums on different labels, including the collection of big band standards Temptation. |
