Hieroglyphics
HIEROGLYPHICS emerged in the early '90s in Oakland, California, offering an alternative to the then-predominant gangsta stylings of West Coast rap. The loose-knit collective releases its own records, often in cassette format. Members includes solo artists Del Tha Funkee Homosapien and Casual; groups Souls of Mischief, Extra Prolific, and The Prose (featuring crew DJ DJ JBiz), and manager Domino. Friends since elementary school, the HIEROGLYPHICS crew often tours and records together, but their first entirely collaborative album was 1998's Third Eye Vision. |

Rap/Hip Hop |
You gotta love a hip-hop poet who takes time out of his N-word-laden prose to tell the listener that his rhymes are "regal," and then proceeds to play the words "intestines" and "blessin's" off one another. Overthrow, anyone?
