Welcome !
    Ozomatli
If any band could be all things to all people, it would be Ozomatli. The nine members of this LA collective blend a unique and exhilarating cocktail of salsa, ska, hip-hop, samba, funk, ragas, and rock. Despite being named after the Aztec god of dance, Ozomatli provides more than party music. In fact, the band coalesced around a 1995 protest by workers at the Los Angeles Conservation Corps. Bass player and then-LACC employee Wil-Dog staged a sit-in to call attention to poor working conditions. He was joined by singer, guitarist and former political consultant Raul Pacheco, and a series of benefit concerts began. By the time the strike was over, Ozomatli had a repertoire of original songs and a growing legion of hometown fans. The band had grown to nine members, including MC Chali 2na and DJ Cut Chemist of underground hip-hoppers Jurassic 5. Ozomatli’s packed shows every Sunday at a local nightclub finally drew the attention of the Almo Sounds label. Capturing the spirit of its live show in the recording studio, the band released its self-titled debut album in 1998.
