Soulive
Proving the old adage “age ain’t nothin’ but a number,” the gentlemen in Soulive -- all under the age of 25 -- bring a sound that’s soulful beyond their years. Consisting of guitarist Eric Krasno, drummer Alan Evans and his brother, Neal Evans, on Hammond B-3, Soulive has quickly made its way up the ranks in the jam/groove scene since forming in March, 1999. Melding a timeless sound of jazz, funk, and soul grooves reminiscent of Herbie Hancock and B-3 legend Jimmy Smith, the trio of musicians has found it’s way onto festival stages around the country, building a fan base of music lovers fond of instrumental jamming. Alan Evans was a founding member of Moon Boot Lover (of which Neal was also a member) and has also played with the Greyboy Allstars and Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe. Krasno continues to play with Lettuce, a funk band based in Boston of which he was a founding member. Soulive released a debut EP, Get Down in 1999, and in 2000, released Turn It Out, featuring guest appearances by guitarist John Scofield, bassist Oteil Burbridge, and Sam Kininger on alto-sax. |

Soulive turns it out and busts loose with a seriously tight groove that swings while you sway and bops while you boogie. These guys are right on time.
