A two-minute slice of upbeat country blues, "How Long" may not be one of Leadbelly's best (or best-known) numbers, but it makes a nice introduction to his music. Sonny Terry's soulful harmonica playing adds some nice flavoring, but mostly it's Leadbelly's driving 12-string playing and weirdly flexible voice that put the song across. Listen closely, and you can hear why his music was so appealing to the British musicians of the late 1950s and early 1960s -- it's downhome and bluesy, but it's also melodic and energetic in ways that were easy to relate to, whereas the music of folks like Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters would be a little more challenging for white folks to get behind.

One of the founders of Blues - this track sounds classic. The guy inspired many from Hank to Hendrix. I dig the track.
