Villified

Galactic turns the soul-o-meter up a notch on this saucy, danceable bit of N'Awlins goodness that proves they truly know how to do it all the way live.

Recorded live with a studio sharp sound, the R&B-tinged “Villified” presents a different side of Galactic. Fronted on this one by singer Theryl “The Houseman” DeClouet (“Ladies and gentlemen, they tell me he’s in the building…” warns saxman Ben Ellman at the head of the track), “Villified” is a saucy, danceable bit of N’awlins goodness. Guitarist Jeff Raines is showcased with his raunchy, buzz-saw sound, but the energy of this track overall could use a little bit of a boost. The boys sound tight, though, and you can hardly fault them for slowing it down for once. Absent on the live version are the background vocals by Theresa Andersson (she’s on the album), so Ellman fills in on sax. It’s not one of their strongest cuts, but an admirable live performance and solid delivery by the Houseman make it worth checking out.

A great blend of jazz and funk. Outstanding work on the guitars and wah-wah, too! As you might expect, there are several breaks leading into solos by most of the band.
