King Ernest Suffer & Stay Album: Blues Got Soul
Genres: Blues
A stirring ballad from the appropriately named Blues Got Soul CD, sung with a heartful of regret by a man who definitely died too soon. |

Temptation got the best of King Ernest, and his woman caught him drivin' around town with another girl. It's a simple, oft-told tale, but Ernest delivers it with a soulful ache that makes it sound far more real than your average blues ballad. The musical backing (led by a sweetly-played guitar and a sleazy sax) is pure South Side Chicago, but Ernest's amazing voice really steals the show. Listen to the way he sings about begging for forgiveness from God and his woman, knowing full well that God's going to be an easier sell than the lady who just walked out the door. That's blues, that's soul, that's humanity -- King Ernest Baker had all of the above, and it's a damn shame he won't be around to give us more.

This guy is new to me but he's very good. The song comes across my Jukebox with mountains of atmosphere.
