Guided by a simple, live bass loop, this bluesy-jazzy number is anchored by Chaka Khan’s torchy chorus. In between her cool-ass vocal runs, De La slips in their ultra-clever wit-in-rhyme. Specifically, they’re focusing on friends who bolt when it suits them, then try to walk back into your life as if nothing ever happened, pretending that it’s “all good.” There’s the lover who made your life a living hell, then decided to stroll back in; there are the homies who stopped calling when your rap career went from hot to tepid, as De La’s did a few years back, then started hitting you up once you’re back on top. Whoever they may be, and whatever the circumstances, Dove, Pos and Mase want to make it clear that “it ain’t all good” with these fair weather acquaintances -- they’re not about to let bygones be bygones. The track is nothing special, but it’s brought to life by Khan’s soulful pipes and De La’s mind-bending rhymes. Example: “The lovin’ you claimin’ is a four-letter word / The third letter’s inviting so visualize the verb” -- one of the most creative, unlikely references to boning ever to grace a hip hop record.
