Caviar Tangerine Speedo Album: Caviar
Genres: Alternative
Retro lounge? Modern rock? Chicago's Caviar just can't make up their mind on this track from their eponymous debut. |

Caviar's "Tangerine Speedo" starts off promising enough: Preprogrammed samba beats, combined with whirring keyboards and shimmying maracas, conjure up a retro ditty specially designed for Audrey Hepburn's cocktail parties in Breakfast at Tiffany's. But as soon as the Chicago-based quartet hits the chorus, it simultaneously gears up the guitars, and the song deteriorates into modern-rock-by-the-numbers. Props still go to guitarist Blake Smith, whose delivery of the line "A woman can't resist a man who looks good in a speedo" is so drenched in detached irony that it's absolutely priceless.

Even though this song is overwhelming in the "Charlie's Angels" commercials, it still is funkalicious and kicks ass!
