  Dillinger Four
Q: How Many Punks Does it Take to Change a Lightbulb?
Album: Versus God
Genres: Punk
I'm not sure how many punks it takes to change a lightbulb, but it only takes the Four to change the face of modern punk rock! To paraphrase one of their album titles, this scathingly subversive shit is genius!

A furious indictment of everything that's gone wrong with punk rock, Dillinger Four's "How Many Punks…" manages to be everything that's right with punk rock in the modern era. It's a driving, vicious attack, both lyrically and musically, but its irresistibly hooky power-pop chorus makes it accessible to even the most casual of listeners. How deliciously subversive, then, that the chorus is a scathing recrimination of exactly the kind of mindless singalong that the song could provoke -- how many kids won't see the irony in shouting in unison "All the kids so satisfied to shut their eyes / And shed their skins"? It's a brilliant reaction to the crass commercialization of punk rock -- or, as the D4 sing, "packaged dissent for all." Absolutely amazing stuff -- this is easily some of the best punk rock of the year!
