For years, the institution of New York Hardcore has been defined by Sick Of It All. Headed by brothers Lou & Pete Koller, SOIA have taken a few stylistic turns since their 1989 full-length debut Blood Sweat and No Tears, but have come full circle on “Blown Away”, the lead track from their 2000 release, Yours Truly. Although the rest of the record toys with pop and hard-rock infusions into the otherwise staid NYHC formula, this is a no-bullshit attack of all the angst, screams, pain and brutality that made ya love SOIA in the first place. This “roots” song aside, Yours Truly continues to set Sick Of It All apart from the pack thanks to their ability to expand the genre beyond its hard-fast rules. Produce-of-the-moment Steve Evetts gets some of the credit for pushing the band beyond their less memorable 1999 effort Call To Arms, but it’s hard to ignore that these same bastards have stayed intact and helped keep a music scene alive for some 14 years now. Clocking in at 2:19, “Blown Away” will zoom past you before you know it, but be prepared for a healthy growing addiction.

My review: NYC Hard Core greats keep blowing me away (no pun intended) with each album. I hope SOIA continue to put out quality albums for years to come. Built To Last was one of my favorites, but Yours Truly is fresh and is one of my Top 5 for the 2000 Year!
