Cindy Lou Harrington & SHOWDOWN Rodeo & Juliet Album: Rock My Country
Genres: Alt-Country
If this song's any indication, rodeo riders aren't as macho as they used to be. You'll want to keep your puke bag handy, cowpoke. |

“Rodeo & Juliet” is an attempt at humor, a failed attempt. That’s not to say that the song isn’t capably played and sung by a crack assemblage of Atlanta’s finest musicians, but it’s just goddamn annoying. Harrington adeptly croons the tale of a rodeo bozo who isn’t into rock & roll, fishing, or boozing; just riding in the Saturday night rodeo and kissing up to some chick named Juliet. If slick, mainstream country pap is up your alley than you might find this number more redeeming, but one can’t help thinking as Cindy Lou sings “he’s living each day and night without regret,” that this ode isn’t about a tough, rugged cowboy, but rather some lovelorn sap. It’s enough to make you want to blow chunks all over your mechanical bull.
