Nine Inch Nails No You Don't (Version) - Manipulated by Keith Hillebrandt Album: n/a
Genres: Alternative,Electronic
Hillebrandt takes the guitar-heavy industrial thrash of the original and puts it through an old-school industrial filter, making this version more Frontline Assembly than Ministry. |

The original version of "No You Don't" emphasized the guitar thrash and furious, angst-filled vocals of Trent Reznor. Keith Hillebrandt "manipulation" takes the emphasis off those features; in fact, Reznor's vocals don't even come in until mid-way through the song, and even then, they're pretty low in the mix until the last minute or so. The Hillebrandt remix puts the emphasis on the electronic sounds, concentrating on synthesizers, sequencers, and the electronic beat, and giving the mix a feel more akin to early '80s industrial pioneers like Frontline Assembly, Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, or Skinny Puppy. That's not to say that this version doesn't sound like Nine Inch Nails -- let's face it, Reznor's voice is pretty distinctive (almost to the point of being iconic), and there's still plenty of thrash here -- but this remix definitely displays a "classic" sound that's at the roots of industrial music. It's interesting to hear just how different the song sounds when those elements are brought up in the mix.
