Uninspired wordplay insults the intelligence here, as British “boy band” attempts to snag a slice of American cheese pop.

This British pop trio defies the current industry standard for “boy bands” in that they actually play instruments and produce much of their own music. And despite the ooey-gooey nature of this lyrically-vacant “I’ll be there no matter what”-type track, at least there’s a strumming acoustic guitar and an attempt at an electric lead that places “Side” milestones above the choreographed synthetics we’ve come to expect from the Backstreet, et. al., camp of “male vocal groups.” Alas, organic instrumentation aside, this tune is still an indistinguishable throwaway. The rousing chorus may stick with you (but so does “Xanadu”) and the three-part vocal harmonies are smooth, but the lyricist needs to trash his Rhyming For Dummies manual and trade it in for some sweet hallucinogenics, a book of Dr. Seuss stories, or, at the very least, a thicker thesaurus: “Who’s gonna be there when you fall / To build you up when you’re feeling small … I’ll stand up for you / No matter what you’re going through … Any time, day or night / Don’t care if it’s wrong or right …” Be still my heart. Oh well, some genius once pointed out that “cliches are cliches for a reason,” and apparently the swooning teens who shop at Casual Corner have yet to realize they don’t need to settle for such uninspired wordplay. There’s a big world out there and though BB Mak may stay by your side, you can always pretend you don’t see them.

I like their music. It's upbeat and fun. And original music. I love the pipes on one of their songs.
