There are certain songs that are made to make you feel good. Boo Boo the Fool is trying hard to do that for you with “Splash Party,” but he just can’t get it right. “Splash Party” starts out with struggling restrained voices that shout, “got to tell you what ya want y’all, so I can give you what ya need.” Unlike most get up and dance rap songs, this call to all is not followed by a booming bass or a “rawkus” rhythm. Instead, a static Casio Keyboard (circa 1992) delivers a pathetic thump that leaves you lying in the pool face down. Boo Boo tries to create a party anthem, but he cannot completely rely on the lyrics “I swear by the hair of my chinny, chin, chin, I ain’t going to stop until this Splash Party ends.” He needs a bit more, and the Casio is not going to cut it. Good try though.
