When former House of Pain rapper Everlast embarked on a full-fledged solo career, few could have predicted the amalgamation of folk, blues and hip-hop he came up with. "I Can't Move," from his latest album, Eat at Whitey's, reveals the power of Everlast's mutt of a musical vision: blending acoustic folk guitar with bobbing trip-hop beats, he captures the bare honesty of one genre and the soothing calmness of the other. His scratched voice, meanwhile, exposes an emotional depth that would shock the frat boys who still party to "Jump Around." Seems that Everlast has left his raucous musical past behind. In doing so, he's granted himself one hell of a future.
