Bush takes it to the people -- that’s John, not George W. -- on an amped-up live recording of Anthrax circa 2000. |

Been itchin’ to hear how John Bush sounds live with Anthrax? A question probably only for ‘thrax fans that have been in hiding for the past seven years, but if that’s you -- smoke up! This well-recorded rendition of “Inside Out” captures a tight and fairly amped-up performance from July 2000 in Salt Lake City. On the laboriously titled but clearly invitalized 1998 album Vol. 8: The Threat Is Real, this mid-tempo mosher blended an atmospheric (Sambora-esque?) guitar-plucked verse with a hammered-out, S.O.D.-style death grind riff -- and the in-concert version proves true-to-record. Vol. 8 offered some strong evidence that the 19-year-old Anthrax still has a few tricks up their sleeve, and the live take on “Inside Out” lends further credence to the cause. Presumably powered by Paul Crook, the solo alone is peculiarly “un-Anthrax” enough to warrant an investigative listen. There are stronger tunes off of Vol. 8, but if you need a quick update from Anthrax circa 2000, “Inside Out” will get ya up to speed, right about now!
