The previously unavailable “To Whom It May Concern,” a Human Clay bonus track for those outside of the American market, is more of the band’s same old, thinly-veiled spiritual longing set to a hard rock crunch. Opening with Mark Tremonti’s brooding guitar notes and Scott Stapp’s personal revelations (“Sometimes I get beside myself”) the song builds to a Doors-ian bluesy-ness before plummeting into the bowels of pedestrian heavy rock. The singer’s wide range keeps the song from being a total loss, but these sunkissed, bible-thumpin’ millionaires can do much better, which may explain why “To Whom” was left off the domestic product.       John D.
