O-Town Liquid Dreams Album: O-Town
Genres: Pop
Observe as TV's pre-fab five give "Liquid Dreams" to the teenage girls of America with this generic, by-the-numbers boyband weeper. Next to these dorks, 'N Sync sound like King Crimson. |

Surrounded by images of today's hottest divas, the latest boy band on the block, O-Town, croons about their fantasy dream girl –- the focus of the first single off their debut album. "I dream about a girl who's a mix of Destiny's Child / Just a little touch of Madonna's wild style / With Janet Jackson's smile, throw in a body like Jennifer's / You got the star of my liquid dreams." The sugar-pop spawn of the ABC reality series "Making the Band", O-Town declares that this fantasy chick is a "morpherotic dream", but I haven't had such nightmares since Michael Jackson's "Black Or White" video (hell, lead singer Jacob Underwood even throws in a Jackson-like “Whoooooo!” towards the end of the song). Main heartthrobs Ashley Parker Angel and Underwood share the vocal spotlight, with remaining members Erik Michael, Dan Miller, and Trevor Penick pouring their heart and soul into the few seconds they have in this over-produced attempt at reaching teen sensation-hood. We know these guys have some talent, otherwise they wouldn’t have “made the band,” but their talents are lost over a weak beat and gut-wrenching chorus. I would imagine that O-Town's "Liquid Dreams" have more to do with banging groupies before their sparkle fades, but some dreams are better left under the covers.
