The Mouse's breakthrough hit from 1981 is a prime example of why he's so important to reggae music. While the musical tracks are pretty typical for reggae of the day, emphasizing electronics over live musicians and a fairly sterile, synthesized groove, they're not the focus of the song. The focus is on Mouse's incredible vocal gymnastics, shifting effortlessly from crooning into rapid-fire, hardcore toasting, and leaving heads spinning in his wake. It's not very easy to understand the lyrics, but again, that's not what's important here. What's important is the way the Mouse uses his voice as an instrument, how it sets the pace and rhythm of the song far better than the musical accompaniment. The track could almost be as successful if it were recorded a cappella, as everything else fades in to the backdrop, only there to provide a frame to hold Mouse's inimitable, masterful vocals.

one of the best reggae songs.
master

Now a man with presence. Talk about a voice. Talk about some serious pectorals. He is one of the few reggae-misters that I can stand, so listen up.
