Nebraska has often been overlooked in the Springsteen catalog, and was not very well-received by fans at the time of its release, the raw 4-track recordings and melancholy tone being a complete change of pace from rockers like "Born To Run" and "Hungry Heart." By the time the mega-smash Born in the USA was released, Nebraska was already relegated to the cutout bins (notably the only Springsteen album in the bins at the time). The few people that did "get" Nebraska were truly inspired by it, though, and in the same way that the Velvet Underground's influence is massive despite the band never really being successful, Nebraska's influence on today's lo-fi indie community is incalculable.

Jurado is among those who have taken Springsteen's lead as a cue, and his releases are largely stripped-down, folksy affairs. It makes perfect sense, then, for him to take on "Wages Of Sin," a track written and recorded in the Nebraska sessions, though it didn't make the final cut. Jurado and duet partner Rose Thomas offer a faithful rendition of the tune, a simple, stark arrangement of acoustic guitar and the two voices, intertwining in a way that's at once heartbreaking and beautiful. A fine tribute to the muse that Springsteen provided, and a worthwhile contribution to the excellent Nebraska tribute album, Badlands.
