Swedish export Staffan Olsson, aka Bosson, may be a mere 26 years old, but he’s already discovered the secret formula for musical Armageddon. Equal parts parts ABBA, George Michael, Cher, and Britney-Backstreet-Aguilera, “One In A Million” contains every sonic element that typifies hideously disposable pop, while simultaneously ensuring worldwide acclaim for its creator. To wit: the uninspired track is featured in the Sandra Bullock flick Miss Congeniality, for which it received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Song In A Motion Picture. Clearly the brain-damaged Globe voters frequent only the trashiest discos-that-time-forgot and spend way too much time trolling the malls of America where this kind of cookie-cutter drivel is de rigeur on the breast-implanted bellyshirt set. Insipid and clichéd lyrics (one in a million????) are presented via Bosson’s blandly passionless vocals; the artist’s voice literally disappears into the modern pop landscape unnoticed until the producer gets kooky and lays down some of that wacky distortion that was used to such grand effect on Cher’s “Believe.” A few generic and hackneyed drum beats later, Bosson launches into one of those little spoken-word thangs that can only be lip synched into a head-set microphone favored by the “kids” on these “American MTV Peoples’ Choice Billboard Awards From Hell.” Protesters obsessed with the negative impact of heavy metal on our teen culture should beware: I’ve heard Satan’s soundtrack, and Bosson’s got the title track.
