DUngEon Squad w/ Digital Underground 5 Elementz [sic] Album: Flammable Material
Genres: Rap/Hip Hop
Here's a track where the concept of being clever may have ruined the music. Our writers were not too into it, but you may have different ideas. Read the review before you download it. |

The Digital Underground's new song "5 Elementz" is missing an element. The concept behind this track lacks the cleverness and storytelling this group showed almost a decade ago with "Freaks Of The Industry". The rap/dance group failed to really make an enduring impact on hip hop culture and, unfortunately, continue the trend of mediocrity with this song. The flow starts with Sunshine because she provides the light, while Nighttime comes in and provides the darkness. Danger is third and he provides the fear. While Goodtimes provides the smiles, and finally Reality is the one that sets in. The relationship between these elements seems somewhat mysterious to me, they adhere to no conventional understanding of elements that comprise a whole i.e. earth, air, fire, and water. Although the beat in this track is strong and provides some head-noddin', the basic concept is so confusing and unrelated that it is hard to take this song seriously.

The song is better than the review says plus I give them props just because they are with Digital Underground. Paradise forget that other place hear at MusicBlitz we can write what we think.

This is a definate FIVE STAR joint!! And has consistently been one of the best songs on MP3.com. - Lynn Nishimura should stick to ABC News, and leave Hip-hop reviews alone. Hip-hop has Elements that are unknown to novices.
