Tantric, eh? Well, all Sting jokes aside, there are basically three types of Tantric Yoga -- White Tantric, which is all about freeing your mind and heart from the accumulated bullshit of daily existence; Red Tantric, or "sex yoga"; and Black Tantric, which is used to dominate and manipulate others. Judging by "Breakdown," this particular Tantric doesn't seem to fit into any of the above categories, being neither malevolent, sexy, nor particularly enlightening. Like Days Of The New, Tantric does a good job of layering acoustic and electric guitars in unpredictable ways, and the singer wields a stronger Jim Morrison influence than most of today's post-grunge crooners. But the song itself is nothing special, just moderately catchy fodder for modern rock radio. Here's hoping that the rest of the band's debut record does a better job of living up to their name.
