Radiohead writes music for the 21st century: With off-kilter rhythms and computerized vocals, their latest, Kid A, depicts just how disconnected we've become in this age of technology. Yet despite the bleak viewpoint, the band retains a fierce hope that things can get better -- a quality that becomes evident when Radiohead performs in concert. This live version of Kid A’s "Everything in its Right Place" is less jarringly disjointed than its studio counterpart, thanks to Jonny Greenwood's muted keyboard melody. Thom Yorke still makes a case for disconnectedness, creating a cacophony of lost voices by looping his pleading vocal back on itself. But even as he expresses these feelings, he simultaneously connects with the crowd; the sound of thousands of hands clapping in time can be heard in the background. Radiohead may despair that we've lost touch with each other. But in doing so, they somehow bring us closer together.
