Although lead vocalist Sully Erna claims creepy Wiccan influences, and the band’s imagery is edgy and mod, the music is about as adventurous as a Hallmark greeting card. Already an alt-radio staple, “Awake” is a hodgepodge collection of monotonous plodding riffs, marked by a solid 40-second chunk of tune where guitarist Tony Rambola picks the exact same single downtuned chord into glazed-eyed submission.
