Fluoroscopic Kid's "Soft Drink Jihad" is a song that offers, if nothing else, fun in experimentation. |

When Texas-based electronic artist Fluoroscopic Kid and his label, Sonic Therapy, decided they wanted to put out their first vinyl release -- a 12" single for FK's "Soft Drink Jihad" –- they solicited remixes of the track from a bunch of friends and other artists. Due to the limited space on the record, missed deadlines and other complications, they were only able to squeeze four mixes onto the vinyl release. But rather than let the rest of the submissions go to waste, they're offering them as free MP3 downloads on their web site. There are seven to choose from, and all are worth a listen if you have the time and bandwidth.
From uneasy ambient reworkings by Straight Outta Mongolia and Mad Monkey Consortium, to the breakbeat-dub of Puppy, to a decidedly non-electronic cover version by noise-pop band Suretoss, the mixes cover all the bases. Combine them all with the 12" release (which is also recommended) and you've got yourself a full album's worth of fun!

Fun. But not as fun as the track's name.
