If the Big Bang were captured on six-minutes-and-33-seconds-worth of tape, it probably would have sounded something like Amon Tobin’s “Pick Up the Pieces of Saturn [Mosh Mix]” for Loosegroove Records. Appropriately titled, this rhythmic obliteration of traditional song structure and notions will make heads remember that nice guy Tobin can also spit out tracks as hard as anything from the toughest drum ‘n bass labels.
Starting off with five seconds of futuristic waveform instrumentation, Tobin wastes little time getting into the scorched-earth agenda of destroying Saturn. Every twist and turn of the song blends flawlessly into the other, from the quick flange flails to the spastic mix of breaks backed by an ominous, throbbing bassline. A blaring sax riff adds to the insatiable chaos. After all is said and done, you’ll need a vacuum cleaner to pick up the mental shrapnel left in the wake of this atomic bomb.

Bad recording. Once the beats begin, the song works ok.
