Voi Vod Insect Album: Lives
Genres: Metal
A refreshingly stripped-down, non-nonsense live take from the almighty Voivod – the metallic originators (and only practitioners) of Punk Floyd. |

Sometimes you need a good kick in the head to think straight. Voivod happily provides the boot on this live version of “Insect,” originally found on 1995’s Negatron. Voivod’s years of following the sonic muse of experimentation may have made faithful fans forget the band’s origins –metal/punk fusioneers. Voivod broke ground in taking extreme metal out of its strictly gothic habitat into a place where more socially progressive types (read: people without long hair) could find something to latch onto. Such genre blending is now commonplace, but you gotta give the Canadians points for being there first. “Insect” delivers brutality and dissonance with a spit-in-yer-eye style that few do better. Take your medicine!

I'm into the heavy guitars and the changing tempos.... can't say the same for the strained vocals and the cheesy metal lyrics.
