  Coldcut
Autumn Leaves (Irresistable Force mix)
Album: Two A.D. (Compilation)
Genres: Electronic
Electronic visionary innovations are found in Coldcut's "Autumn Leaves," as the song weaves French Jazz with ambient strings and keyboards. A definite download for the dreamy type.

One of British duo Coldcut's earlier works, 1993's "Autumn Leaves" reworks a French jazz song into a moving ambient track, the beauty of which lies in the way it covers so much musical ground while hardly containing any music at all. This remix (from Irresistable Force) of the near-beatless track travels through drifting keyboards and analog sounds that glisten like snow fields at night, while a cascade of strings occasionally flits across the song like a shooting star. Female vocals appear halfway through the song to escort you through this dreamy world. The gorgeous track shows why Coldcut have been hailed as electronic visionaries for the past decade, and is not to be missed.

I love and play Autumn Leaves, and I've heard many different versions. I think this masterpiece of ambience is hauntingly beautiful. It could be mixed with a drum and base pattern of some sort, but I think I like it without.
