Tom Waits Hold On Album: Mule Variations
Genres: Alternative,Rock
Who knew that Waits could resemble Springsteen? Well, in this track he does, and in a splendid manner. Downloading this will give you two artists in one song. What more could you ask for? |

There's a Springsteenish quality to this standout from Mule Variations, which is a bit ironic; Waits had mastered this sort of gritty ballad long before the Boss developed the knack. Yet as the title suggests, there's a redeeming optimism beneath the catalog of tough times, something more often found in Bruce's work than Waits'. Close your eyes, in fact, and you can almost hear Springsteen's slightly less-gravely growl atop the acoustic guitars and graceful bass swoops.

He's getting better and I am looking forward to hearing the rest of the album.

I saw a comparison to Bruce Springsteen, so I had to give it a listen...Fans of either will not be disappointed...Tom Waits continues to be one of the best songwriters of his time...but be warned, this song will stick in your head, but that's not necessarily a bad thing...

waits masters his art, however this type of music is not exactly my afternoon tune. I am sure he put in hours of effort but hey I gotta be honest... two stars!
