“As It Is” -- one of the more interesting tracks from Spear's Calling Rastafari album -- finds the singer revisiting his past in a highly autobiographical lyric, recalling his early days as a Bob Marley protégé. Over a low-key but jaunty groove fleshed out with horns and female backing vocals, Spear chants of his days of struggle, and ultimately can't resist an “I-told-you-so” to his early critics: “I am the stone that builders refused.” As time and his steady string of reggae albums have proved, dismissing Spear has always been a bad call.
