  Unlike the many blues and R&B songs that play drinking problems for laughs, the lyrics of Luther's "Cherry Red Wine" form a brutally direct assessment of a loved one's alcoholism, and the damage it does to those around them. This version, recorded live in 1996 at the Hollywood House of Blues, is almost too intense for words; Luther sings like a man in the throes of utter torment, and his distorted guitar leads articulate the pain even further. If you've never heard Luther Allison before, this track will make you want to run out and buy all of his albums. And if you own his albums, it'll remind you of why you bought 'em all in the first place.

This song is so emotional, its easy to lose yourself in. Dan Epstein was right, it does make me want to buy all of Luther Allison's albums.
