Recorded with a full band at New Orleans' House of Blues, this live rendition of Horace Silver's "Senor Blues" (the title track to Taj's Grammy-winning 1997 CD) perfectly encapsulates the magic of Taj Mahal. The moody Latin rhythms and horn arrangements collide with bluesy electric guitar licks, soulful organ fills, and jazzy piano cascades, while Taj delivers the slyly humorous lyrics with plenty of gusto. The whole dizzying concoction is a veritable treat for the ears; the track clocks in at nearly seven minutes, but you wish its seductive spell would last forever. |
