A watery, atmospheric song with the inexorable pull of an oceanic undercurrent, "Amphibian" comes complete with odd organ notes and eerie whistling. It has the air of a long-lost folk tune, with Bjork speak/singing unrecognizable words in a restless, keening way. The melody -- not your usual verse-chorus-verse affair -- dissolves as soon as the last note ends, but the feeling stays with you for hours.

Another ethereal gem from Bjork. This tune is a cross between a Broadway ballad – with its tinkly piano a la Gershwin – and a soundtrack to some peaceful dream. At first, you don’t even take notice of Bjork’s voice as it blends so beautifully with the music that you just accept it as another instrument – which it rightfully is. It doesn’t even matter that you can’t quite decipher the lyrics as the whole piece evokes an understanding of the metamorphosis and evolution such as an amphibian experiences in its life. It is a beautiful piece. Light some candles, pull up the tune, lie down, and close your eyes. Bjork will help you relax.
