If you're expecting a typical alt-country outing from Joe Henry, you're in for something of a surprise -- "Skin & Teeth" is a sleek pop song that's closer to early Michael Penn or Tunnel of Love-era Bruce Springsteen than anything Henry ever did with the Jayhawks. Loud drums and ethereal guitar lines propel the melody, while Henry's evocative lyrics take a resigned look at a dissolving relationship. Nothin' fancy going on here, just good songwriting and tasteful production, with a chorus that should stick in your head after just a single listen. |

A great song, but I don't think that it belongs under Alt-country...so if you're looking for A-C, don't look here, but if you want to here a great mellow song, check it out anyway. |
