Sevendust Headtrip Album: Home
Genres: Metal
This cut from Sevendust's latest CD is really just several cool parts in search of a decent song. |

"Headtrip" is powered by a post-Sabbath guitar riff that staggers like a woozy brontosaurus, with drums are so heavy that you can feel 'em in your chest cavity. Lajon Witherspoon's singing is infinitely more soulful than that of your typical rap/metal frontman, while Sevendust also jacks up the lowest-common-denominator appeal by having somebody scream "Shut the fuck up!" now and again. The problem is that none of these elements (however viscerally enticing) ever cohere into something meaningful or memorable -- "Headtrip" just seems like a bunch of disparate parts in search of a song. These guys obviously have potential, but it's hard to imagine anyone other than the most un-critical Korn/Bizkit fan getting too excited about this track.
