2 Samoleta Mommy Album: Bees & Honey
Genres: Reggae
Bluebeat bounce from Mother Russia? Yep -- the fat bass and sassy horns here offer pure island groove. |

More reggae than ska, this full-bodied track tops a thick, liquid bassline with a bit of brass and some weirdly nasal vocals that end up giving the track a necessary jolt of personality. Musically, it's not groundbreaking by any stretch, but 2 Samoleta is at least borrowing from some worthy Jamacian sources (as well as some of the better British cops of same). As for what the tune's about, or what it has to do with anyone's "Mommy," damned if I can tell -- but since these Russians communicate clearly their love of island music, who cares?
