Dio Fever Dreams Album: Magica
Genres: Metal
Sounds like classic Dio, but where's the chorus? |

This cut from the new Magica album finds Dio soldiering on as if the '90s never happened. An ominous keyboard chord gets things off to an appropriately majestic start, followed by a stomping intro riff; the lyrics check off most of the staple items on the Dio shopping list ("Demons," "Evil," "Hell," "Fire," etc.), and the lead guitarist gives good shred. In short, classic Dio -- or rather, it would be, if it wasn''t just half a song. The verses build momentum rather nicely, but you keep waiting for a soaring chorus to take it over the top (a la "Rainbow In the Dark"), and the payoff never comes. It's good enough if you need a quick Dio fix -- and who doesn't, now and then? -- but the diminutive dude is capable of doing much better.
